well I've been doing on some research on way to keep an eye on you oil temp.

first of i don't have a turbo car and well no I'm not planning to. i got my water temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges at dirt price and well why not i want to keep an eye in my investment even tho i hate my freaking engine(DOHC ZC). with my luck i get all the bugs out and give it to some one and they never have a problem. the story of my life. lol.

anyway many ppl stated the same thing, you'll need to tap to oil pan. it's the only way. well I've been think and that's not a goo thing and i cam up with this... let the pic speak for themself again this was a test to see if it can be done..

so i drill thru the center of an oil plug/bolt.

and how it would sit inside one i tapped it.

so please tell me what you think. if it's worth it or not. the hot oil will sit on the sensor so i figure it would give me an accurate reading. my only question do you thing it would convert the plug into a sensor to in the sense on the plug being heat soaked and giving to much of a reading...

thanks

I've seen that done before and I'm sure it will work fine. The only issue I see is that it may be broken easily. It will be pointing down when installed and the drain bolt is already the lowest point on the pan.

was the issue I saw as well. But the heat sinking could be a problem too unless it [the sensor] only detects temperature through the tip of the sensor or something.

If you put the sensor in a typical oil-filter sandwich plate, then you get the temps of the oil as it is being sent to the engine.

The filter adapter plates are very cheap, simple to setup, and don't don't get ripped off by a scrape over debris or a speed bump.

I threw one onto my K20 a few days ago. Took about 15mins total to install an oil temp sensor, and oil pressure sensor, and the sandwich plate, and it still leaves me with a plug in a spare 1/8th NPT port available should I require externally routed oil pressure for some reason in the future.

I paid something like $24 shipped for it on flea-ghey.

i know luke, but the problem isn't getting a sandwich plate the problem is i have an OEM oil cooler/warmer.

I use a T-fitting with a nylon line on the back of the T for the oil pressure switch, like the Endyn site suggest
