Currently working on helping a friend piece together a motor from mostly free/cheap/low cost parts.
Thus far we have acquired a complete+ B18B1 in about 6 separate boxes, a set of used pr3 pistons, Ls transmission with a busted case and a no name header for $100. Picked up a B16 trans that may or may not need new diff bearings. He ordered an Ebay special engine rebuild kit (bearings/rings/gaskets) for ~$160.
I had him call Delta cams today to inquire about cam grind specifications and pricing, cost was $95 per cam and the only spec's they were able to give was cam lift .240 x 1.75RR gives you a .420 lift cam with unknown duration. We are going to search out some other options if possible on the camshafts as you can commonly find used Crower 403's for ~$200.
Hope it get some pictures this weekend of what he has acquired and maybe begin to start cleaning things up. 150whp would be great.
If anyone is familiar with the non-vtec b motors and has a few pointers that would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that there are better options available but this is more of a project for fun/knowledge.
TIA

Get a IM like Blox etc.
0.240 lobe lift is about the max regrind you can put on a stock LS core. Base circle can be pretty small. I would ask them how much base circle they grind to achieve 0.240 lobe lift.

I emailed them to try to get duration spec's at least. I doubt they have much information available, he said they were not very helpful on the phone. Honestly for the price Delta doesn't seem like the best option, I'm not sure much R&D has gone into the cam design.
I had dismissed the idea of the ITR style manifold thinking it would be better suited for higher RPM applications than a mild LS.

The IM will complement a mild LS cam (as most LS cams are mild). The goal of making 150whp for an LS is going to involve spinning over 6K which a ITR style manifold is designed for.

I would spend money on this header before cams.

Straight 4-1 design is the least prone to cracking.

I was thinking about trying a modified stock B16 manifold

So I found this no-name manifold on Ebay sor $125 shipped anyone know of a difference between it and one with a name plate on it?
Also looking for information on what modifications need to be done to a B16 manifold to allow it to fit. I am aware that the coolant passage needs relocated, anyone have experience trying this?

I'd like to see a modded b16 manifold. but i believe that manifold is too short for a ls build..
i could be wrong, again i've only seen results with a gsr manifold.
I dont have any dyno sheets off hand.
I did help a guy do this manifold swap a few months back, and i tuned this car on CromePRO Gold, it made 8whp over a stockly ported manifold.. which wasn't a bad gain at all.

NA,
Since I happen to have an ls head, ls intake and a b16 intake...

Saw off the left mismatch portion and tap the head and plumb a hose barb for the hose to the thermostat.

That's what I would do. Its only the center top stud and 2 studs around the coolant port that don't match up, so easy fix. Just have to plug up the egr port too.

OK so today after my autocross event, We officially went from gathering parts to starting on this project. At least modifying the manifold...

Good progress.
I've never seen the edelbrock layed next to oem manifolds before. Looks huge in comparison, lol.

I wish the B16 manifold didn't require being hacked up the way it does to fit but the coolant port got in the way.
Yeah the Performer doesn't look so big until seen from the back side.
I'm excited to see how the B16 manifold works out on the LS motor, trying to talk him into buying a decent set of cams for it.

Actually, intake temps may drop because of the cut off. That may be a big plus.
