in my case i believe i have a bad oil control ring.

my motor has probably about 5k miles on it over 4 years, everything in the head has maybe 500 miles max. the motor blows smoke like the dickens when in vtec...

why? why is it that everyone just says "all hondas burn oil in vtec"?

i also dont get why i dont blow any smoke then all of a sudden bam vtec and theres the smoke.

it just annoys me to make a big nasty cloud, since im so used to think that is NOT supposed to happen.

Only time any of my Honda's have burn oil and left a cloud is when I melted #3 piston on nitrous.

My Y8 in normal daily driving is using 1/2 quart every 3000 miles, first Honda I've had where I need to check the oil once a month.

Check your PCV system.

It's because of two things IMO. They last longer than most cars. I dont see a lot of other cars getting this kinda mileage. How many 91 Taurus's do you see on the road compared to how many 91 civics. The other factor is a lot of the older higher mileage civics are the gens people like to modify so a lot of them have been beat on.

Just my .02. Like Beave said check the PCV system. Might not be venting the pressure well enugh at high RPM forcing some oil past the rings.

my pcv system is a vented valvecover and block to a vta catchcan.

the motor has less than 5k on it in my case, but every other damn honda i see burns oil.

Honda's leak more than they burn.
