View Full Version : High Oil Pressure at idle

So I got done installing my buddy's GSR rebuild, and oil pressure according to an Autometer mechanical gauge is about 70 PSI at Idle. I didn't even leave it on for more than a few seconds cause I was worried something might be pluged and could get starved for oil. It's got Joe Gibbs break in oil and it was pretty cold last night when we started it up, about 55 deg. F. Anyone else see oil pressure this high at cold startup? Main clearances are 0.014-0.020" and rods are 0.016-0.018" so I'm hoping the bearings are getting enough oil.
Any guesses or suggestions?

every time I start my 200,000 mile D16A6......70-90 psi.
60F - 70 psi
40F - 85 psi
20F - 90 psi
Once warmed up after 30 mile drive, 25 psi at idle, 60 psi @ 2200 rpm, 70 psi at 2500 rpm. Unknown oil in it, I've only put about 500 miles on it since purchase last Oct.

Thats normal psi on a cold startup. every build i have done does that and still does it to this day.
