A friend of mine just got his car on the road, he had to replace 5th gear which i doubled checked everything and it all seemed to be in spec to me. He drove the car around for 2 days without problems, on the way to the track the transmission started acting up and was hard to shift into 2nd 3rd or 4th, 5th was fine. When he got it in 2,3,4 it would pop out so he let the car sit and check around for anything obvious, the car sat for bout 40 mins and when he got in the car then it drove fine, until it warmed up. So when the tranny is cold it shifts fine when it gets warm it goes haywire.
Anybody have a clue? Aquafina?
He is using honda MTF which im not much of a fan of the new stuff, its so thin.
But that still should not cause those kinds of issues.
Any input would help before we pull this thing apart.
thanks

change that out, once that get hot it makes it even thinner and syncros and what not work with friction and thinner oil reduces friction.....i'm not 100% on all this but try changing the tranny fluid to some good ole Valvoline syncromesh and see if that helps

I would try some cheap old 10w30 instead of the super thin Honda MTF. If that works then talk with Aquafina about some Torco fluids.
Under RACING comditions, this will happen after about 30 minutes or road racing. I helped on the simple design of a tranny cooler and small sump pump setup.
Suck it out the drain plug, pump it back in the reverse switch hole, doesn't work (or needed) on B series or D series.

So here is what I think happened. I'm pretty sure the mainshaft bearing up by the reverse synchro locked up, and then the shaft was spinning inside the bearing and not the bearing itself spinning. This heated everything up and, well, you know the rest.
The circle thing on top (the name escapes me) somehow had gotten turned around, and the 5th gear synchro spring broke as well.
I gave the guy one of my transmissions, and he'll rob whatever he needs out of it and I told him some of the things to watch out for when he puts it back together, but we can only hope, at this point.
