hey guys how do i know if my fuel pump is going out?

I've never seen a Honda pump fail. What symptoms are you experiencing?

Mine had no symptoms, I was just driving and all of the sudden it just died.

I think its a pass or fail thing, works or doesn't, like furyof4 said, what symptoms are you getting and why would you think its your fuel pump?

it started like 1 month ago. when i start my car it takes like a good 5 or 7 seconds to start when im under 3 gallons of gas..and now there a loud screech/whistle coming from my fuel tank area it comes and goes when im driving. but it doesn't stumble or anything.

Yeah thats almost definitally the FP. Mine kinda squeal/whirred a little and I had a hard start issue. Then one day no dice when I turned the key.

Replace it with a GENUINE Walbro 255 pump and be done with it. Dont get it off ebay, a lot of knock off Walbro pumps on there. Should be around the same price as a new OEm one if I'm not mistaken.

yea uugh ok now i gotta save up for a fuel pump might as well get a walbro 255 too. thanks guys wanted to make sure it was the fuel pump going out and replace it soon

Looks genuine to me. I got mine from tunertoys. Do yourself a favor and plan to make it a weekend project as you will have to drop the tank. (You do have an 88-91 right?) Also gloves and safety glasses are a must, the one fitting I wasnt wearing my glasses for when loosening sprayed 91 octane in my eyes, nose and mouth... THAT SUCKS!!

Hmm well i guess its more common than I thought.

Gecko, It could be a clogged filter sock too. But if your going to go through the trouble of dropping the tank to check, might as well just put a walbro in anyway.

Walbro 255lph pumps usually go for about $100 so their price is dead on. They aren't particularly pricy. However I do know of some people going with Bosch pumps now because the Walbros aren't always reliable. I had a Walbro 255 that had to get replaced twice in my last car. They are proven though, I only know a couple people besides myself that had them fail outright.

Quick little threadjack: Why are you guys suggesting a 255 over a 190?

people often go for the 255L vs the 190L because of the small price difference but the 255L can cause some problems with overloading the stock and sometimes aftermarket FPR's. I personally feel a 190LPh is more than most could ever need in flow unless they were going high boost and would not buy a 255L myself.

As much as I hold a grudge against xenocron, he'd never sell low quality parts or even parts he hasn't used.

People need to get it out of their head that just because it's an "ebay" part it automatically means it's crap. Companies need to start somewhere, and the easiest place is ebay.

I'm recommending a 255 because ideally he'd want to add a FPR anyway and a 255 can support almost ANY mods he'd want to do with his street car.

alright just installed the 255 xenocron fuel pump sound pretty loud i think i might get there fuel pump relay too o and gas on your eye does hurt really bad!!!! lmao

omg ok the car started fine and then it stop and got CEL but no blinks on the ecu wtf!!!!! cant hear the fuel pump when i turn the key anymore im really hoping its not the fuel pump cuz i dont wanna go through all of this again

Ok so my car starts to turn of or jerk a lil when I'm at 3 gallons left in the tank I just installed the 255lph fuel pump and it makes this funny sound while I'm driving sounds like when u have a fish tank filter and its sucking up lil water with air...I out a stock sock on the fuel pump

yea when i got around 1 gal left it wont turn on or if im driving and come to a stop it will die and i chill there for around 10 min trying to start it then it starts like nothing this only happens when im 1-3 gal left on my tank gonna drop the tank again maybe next month...also my fuel gage is reading bad it says i got full tank but really i got 5 gal and when it reads 5gal im basicly empty any one have this problom too?
