This was a customer that came to me thursday. I had tuned his car last saturday, A basic bolt on GSR, with a pro series manifold, ran 15.3's on a stock GSR ECU - After the tune he ran a 14.98 and then a 14.92.. Needs some more seat time as he's still learning the new 3step i put on his car via cromePRO.

With that said, he came by the house yesterday because he said his car was acting funny.. He said he replaced his rotor.. and it feels like is struggling..I removed the cap for inspections as the car has been running fine..

I find this..

The rotor that he took out, isn't even a rotor.. I drove him to autozone to get a new cap, to go with his new rotor..We installed it, i check via a timing light to make sure all the wires were firing, they were.. and the AFR was good, we went for a drive while i monitored his datalogs and AFR readings..
Plugs looked ok..
It would struggle alittle bit, then clear up when vtec engaged then sputter towards 7k.. i told him let out, as the AFR was fine, but it felt like he just pressing the engine too hard..

I told him replace the dizzy setup in FULL.. I pulled some metel shavings off the inside of the dizzy and i believe either the coil or ignitior is going bad and it'd be cheaper to just get a new dizzy.. Thoughts??

I have no idea how long the old rotor/cap were on the car, the tune went great car performed well at the track..

i don't think its the ignitior because when mine went the tach started to mess up all the time but it could be the coil but it would be easier then try to find what it is if hes got the money

This is a good opportunity to upgrade to Motec 800.

http://www.motec.com.au/image_display.php?path=1966898864_M880-web12SFW.jpg&w=556&h=260

(a) Free cam angle control, boost overrun (anti-lag), individual ign outputs and (b) optional drive-by-wire control, telemetry, remote logging.

Motec is "proven", "dyno-proven" etc.

Motec ftw.

Yes, because, a stock gsr really needs that..funny tho.. right?
i mean, everyone should by a motec, haltech or aem.. thats what all the big boys do.... Not.

In defense, when he bought the car, he was told one of the newer things on the car, was the dizzy. The car never showed any signs for power lost and / or any reason to replace these things.., the dizzy was only about a year old.

With that said, when the car started to spit, he figured it was a cap or rotor issuse, i guess he didn't look into the cap lol..

He's getting a new dizzy, i'll update tomorrow..as he wants me to install it.

His rotor looked like yours NA, Hopefully, and i firmly believe a "new dizzy" will clear up all these mis firing problems.

Check the bearings on current dizzy, it might have caused the rotor to get ate up.
