learned alot
rocket i broke my motor in according to what u said was wrong.. granted it wasn't high rpms but at like 5 k, i'd let the motor coast down on its own in gear.. is this bad??

is anyone besides rocket allowed to answer your thread?

sure.. i was just directing it towards him because he bought up that point.. that "compression braking" is bad.. thats how i break in all my motors i've helped build or helped tuned.. thats how i broke it my own motor.Thats also how DonF had told me too so.. its a mix feeling i was just asking his point of view.

That's a good informitive thread. I believe in the "coast down" break in process and use it myself.

cool beans man...when it comes to breaking in a fresh engine people always think their way is gospel.
I do the ring seating by coasting closed throttle from 4000 rpm down several times.

You'll be fine. Don't "lift off," that is compression brake at redline. Good dyno operators will tell you this and abide by this. My buddy told me some dyno tool here in SoCal used to lift off at redline and compression brake/down shift on the Dynojet. They we're like WTF he's trying to blow the motor.
I coast in gear / compression brake for mpg, but do not force shoot the revs. Even then I feel I am going against my own advice.

Lets say.. in theory.. your in a race on the interstate.
you down shift from 5th to 3rd, but you tap the revs up before you down shift so your not "forcing the rpms up, they are already up"... and you sit in 3rd.. is this still bad.. i'm not quite understanding the lift off method, i think I do, but if you could explain it one more time.. that'd be super.

I'm in a discussion with this clown who thinks R/S ratio plays a bigger part then anything else when building a motor..
He disreguards piston speed, and all the other combinations of parts.

Rev matching is fine. WOT redline lifts can't be avoided in some situations such as road racing. I'd like to see whats going on with the rods and pins in my engine when I do it.
